An island in the Thames River, complete with its own Grade I listed hotel, goes on the market.

Monkey Island, in the Thames River, is a mile downstream from Maidenhead and can only be reached by a footbridge, boat or helicopter.

The five-acre getaway was once a monks' fishing retreat, but is now home to a Grade I listed hotel with 26 bedrooms.

The island has been put on the market by Dubai-based owners the Al Habtoor Group, and several potential investors have already expressed an interest.

Henry Jackson, from property agents Knight Frank, said: “We have had substantial interest in this property from around the world. It's likely to go to an investor or hotelier.

“Properties like this do not come on the market every day, and this offers a unique opportunity.”
