The Boat Race is a rowing race between the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club. It is rowed annually each Spring on the Thames in London. The event is a popular one, not only with the alumni of the universities, but also with rowers in general and the public. An estimated quarter of a million people watch the race live from the banks of the river, around seven to nine million people on TV in the UK, and an overseas audience estimated by the Boat Race Company of around 120 million (although other estimates put the audience at a much lower 5 million. The first race was in 1829 and it has been held annually since 1856, with the exception of the two world wars.
The London Boat Show is held each January at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in the heart of London, just opposite the O2 and the centre of London's business and entertainment centre. It is a very large event, now in its 54th year, which uses ExCeL's two 32,500 square metre halls. It is one of the two main annual boat shows in the United Kingdom, alongside the Southampton Boat Show. Both are organised by National Boat Shows, which is a subsidiary of the British Marine Federation, the trade association for the UK boating industry. The 2008 show, known as the Collins Stewart London Boat Show for sponsorship reasons, ran from 11-20 January.
Maidenhead Regatta is a rowing regatta in England which takes place at Dorney Lake, Buckinghamshire, although it is named after the town in Berkshire. It is held in August.
The Marlow Regatta is Marlow's international rowing regatta. It takes place on Dorney Lake, Buckinghamshire near Eton next to the River Thames in southern England. It attracts crews from schools, clubs and universities from around the United Kingdom, Europe and the USA. The regatta takes place on the same weekend as Henley Women's Regatta and two weeks before Henley Royal Regatta.
Sonning Regatta is the regatta of Sonning in Berkshire and Sonning Eye in Oxfordshire, England.
The village encloses the confluence of the River Loddon and the River Thames. It situated on the A321 road between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames. On the opposite bank of the River Thames are the villages of Shiplake and Lower Shiplake. Wargrave has three local schools, the primary school, infant school and a comprehensive school (Piggott School). Each is funded by the Church of England. There is also a Catholic church in the village.
