SU6874 : Climbing Norcot Road, Reading – 1977

by

Service 17 has always been Reading’s principal bus service, running between Wokingham Road and Tilehurst.

Bus 36 is just embarking on the long climb up Norcot Road to the suburb of Tilehurst. It is painted in a special livery advertising the recently introduced Reading Rover ticket, valid over the whole network. Such tickets were just beginning to come into use with Polaroid technology that allowed photo ID as part of the ticket, enabling the ticket to be specific to the holder.

No.36 is a Bristol VR with Northern Counties bodywork, new in 1976. The first batch of these buses were given the nickname ‘Jumbos’ as they were larger than any previous buses.

This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761
