SU8685 : Thames Conservancy marker or boundary post near Marlow

by

The post has wording “The conservators of the River Thames”. It is beside the towpath, and in a hedge at a field boundary. These posts indicate ownership or boundaries of Thames Conservancy land which included locks and weirs, but not the river bed. From 1866 to 1973 Thames Conservancy was responsible for navigation and for upkeep of most of the river. See [[6849850]] for photo showing location.
