TQ1776 : Glastonbury Thorn at Kew Gardens

by

The Glastonbury Thorn (Crataegus monogyna ‘Biflora’) miraculously flowers twice a year, once near Easter and once near Christmas. Here there are a few flowers together with fruit in September. The original on Wearyall Hill near Glastonbury was damaged by vandals in 2010, Kew Gardens staff propagated new trees from the remains, one was replanted at Glastonbury, this is another. See [[5603770]] for photo of the vandalised and venerated original. The common hawthorn which flowers in spring is Crataegus monogyna.
