TQ2877 : Western Pumping Station – basement plumbing

A large waste water pumping station dating from 1875 and originally home to four James Watt & Co beam engines. Now (1991 anyway) has W H Allen 6 cylinder diesel engines and remains in use. The magnificent chimney ventilates the sewers. This is a view in the basement. The thick wall penetrated by the arched opening is almost certainly a wall that supported the columns for the beam engines. I wonder if we would be allowed down here in 2021?
