TQ2978 : London Transport Victoria Garage – 1966

by

Also known as Gillingham Street. This was London’s only central area bus garage, closed in 1993 to make way for more ‘profitable’ urban development.

The vehicles visible are not part of the London Transport fleet, belonging respectively to Western Scottish (far doorway) and Eastern Scottish. The proximity of the garage to Victoria Coach Station meant that many long-distance coach operators used it as a convenient base for local servicing between trips.

The two nearer vehicles are Bristol RE coaches with Alexander bodywork belonging to Eastern Scottish, just a couple of months old at the time.

This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2114547&displayclass=slide
